Chromebook™ One to One Program: What are the Costs?

Q. Who pays for the Chromebook™?
A. The pilot program is being funded through the Middle School Technology Fee of $300.00 which is paid when a St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic School student enters Middle School (typically at 6th grade).
Q. What does a Chromebook™ cost?
A. St. Ignatius, Martyr Catholic School is using Google’s Samsung Series 3 Chromebook™ which costs the school $279.00 per unit.
Q. A Samsung Series 3 Chromebook™ only costs $250.00 at Best Buy. The one from Google seems to be more. Why?
A. Chromebook™s are managed devices through the School’s Google Apps for Education account and that accounts for the added up front cost (each year there is a $29 per year licence fee for managed services).
Q. What happens to the Chromebook™ at the end of the student’s time at St. Ignatius Martyr School?
A. During their enrolled time at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic School the Chromebook™ is the property of St. Ignatius, Martyr Catholic School but the responsibility of the child and family. At the end of the student’s time at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic School the Chromebook™ will become non-managed devices that the students and parents own.
Q. What happens if a Chromebook™ is lost or stolen?
A. St. Ignatius, Martyr Catholic School will have loaner Chromebook™s on hand in the case of loss or theft.
Q. Who pays for a lost or stolen Chromebook™?
A. While the Chromebook™ is the property of St. Ignatius, Martyr Catholic School while the student is enrolled, it is ultimately the responsibility of the child and family to protect the school’s investment. As such, students whose Chromebook™s are either lost or stolen will be assessed a fee of $300.00.
