According to Coach Mac, this is the first St. Ignatius Cross Country Team in school history. St. Ignatius sent the largest number of runners in the 5/6 and 7/8 divisions combined—11 runners—to the AIPL Cross-Country Meet at Texas School for the Deaf on October 29.
St. Ignatius 5/6 boys—Joaquim Richmond, Nathaniel Mahoney, Josh Bannon, and Justin Mikell—took 2nd place, missing 1st place by one team point, which amounted to just 2 seconds (St. Stephen's 5/6 Boys took 1st place). St. Ignatius 7/8 boys—Adrian Jaimes, James Mahoney, Stephen "Shoeless" Hampton, Isaiah Garcia, Nicholas Olivares, Ron Handsel, and Sheldon Hunt—took 3rd place behind St. Andrew's and Trinity. St. Ignatius was only 4 team points behind 2nd place Trinity.
The athletes had the pleasure of meeting Leonel Manzano, 2008 USA Track & Field Olympian, a member of St. Ignatius parish, who was attending the meet. Coach Mac and Coach Bannon are already looking forward to a great season next year.
