The Scripps National Spelling Bee is the nation's largest and longest-running educational promotion, administered on a not-for-profit basis by the E.W. Scripps Company and local spelling bee sponsors in the United States, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Department of Defense Schools in Europe; also, the Bahamas, Canada, China, Ghana, Jamaica, New Zealand, and South Korea.
We are pleased to announce that Marta Maia of the 5th grade was crowned the school champion at the 2013 St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic School Spelling Bee on Friday, January 18, 2013. Runner up for this year's Spelling Bee was Leonel Alba of the 2nd Grade. As School Champion, Marta has advanced to the next level of competition, the Zone 10 Spelling Bee, which will be held on, Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 3:00 pm at Harmony School of Science - Austin, 11800 Stonehollow Dr., Austin TX 78758. Congratulations to Marta and good luck to her at the District Bee!
