In Kindergarten, we develop fluent readers with strong comprehension through phonics, sight word fluency, and comprehension skills. Our goal is to instill a love of reading and enjoyment of books as our students build their collection of sight words. We strive to help ensure their ability to read at or above grade level, in preparation for first grade.
Daily lessons expand upon the subjects of math, social studies, language arts, science, and religion. We place special emphasis on reading, writing, and math skills. Rotating weekly "specials" classes include technology lab, Spanish, music, art, and library visits. Physical Education and recess are offered daily. In addition, Kindergarten students participate in the weekly All-School Mass, other school events and programs, and the annual Christmas Program.
We teach the basics of our Catholic Faith, including prayers, rosary, Lent and Advent activities, and the etiquette of attending Mass.
