St. I SMASH FAQs
Home Cookin’, Cold Drinks, and Rock & Roll
What is SMASH?
St.I SMASH is an outdoor, rock & roll street dance held under the glorious canopy of sprawling live oaks on the grounds of St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic School in South Austin, Texas, U.S.A.
When is the event?
SMASH takes place Saturday, October 8, 2011. Gates open at 6:30pm.
If I’m dancing, who’s playing?
Rock and rollers the Bravados, blues specialists Orange Jefferson and the Seeing Eye Band, the multi-talented Grant Aaron, and special guests will rock your world and have you dancing the night away. As luck would have it, the Bravados hold the nighttime closing slot at Fall Fest this year (Sept. 24), so you have an opportunity to check them out before SMASH.
SMASH is geared toward adults, but we welcome responsible revelers on down to middle school age as well. It’s open to the St. I school/parish community, all the schools and parishes in the diocese, and anyone else you’d like to invite. No one under age 12 permitted.
How do I buy tickets?
$10 tickets can be purchased in advance at St. I or at the event entrance opening at 6:30pm.
Are food and drink available?
Are you kidding me? This is South Austin. Adult beverages, soda, and water will be available while you enjoy delicious Tex-Mex, chili, and Cajun home cookin’. All IDs will be checked and non-alcohol wristbands will be issued to minors.
It’s at night, its outdoors . . . will there be security?
Professional security personnel will be on hand to ensure everyone’s safety.
What can I bring in?
Middle school (and above) aged children, an extremely positive attitude, a love of rock & roll, and an unquenchable desire to dance.
Do you need volunteers?
This is St. Ignatius—of course we do. But can you think of a cooler way to scorethose service hours? This year, even our middle school students are eligible to help out (and receive free admission!) Contact John Vondrak if you want to volunteer. firstname.lastname@example.org.
Where’s the money going?
All proceeds benefit our St. I Annual Fund which:
Pretty important stuff, I’m sure you’ll agree. So . . . please mark your calendars now, book your babysitter, and spread the word to fellow parents, St. I parishioners, the folks at your home parish, your friends and family, and invite them to SMASH! Look for SMASH info on the school website or find us on Facebook.
